Making
the Cherry Blossom Andon: Foiling
© Jo Perez

Once the
pieces have been cut and fitted, it is time to apply the copper foil. Each piece is pulled off the pattern and
wrapped with a thin edge of copper foil.
Different widths of foil might be used to create a uniform line, or a
thicker line can be created to separate visual elements. Each piece is inspected and any foil
overlaps are removed with a thin blade.

The pieces are wrapped, burnished, inspected, trimmed and
returned to the pattern. As you can
see, many of the pieces are quite tiny and difficult to manipulate.
